Pass the link juice (Pay it forward)

Posted in RANDOM on February 3rd, 2008

Man, I am thirsty. I need a tall glass of iced link juice…

Random thought: I wish I had a million dollars for each time I read the phrase “content is king”

It’ is now my task to add another blog to the mix of random niche sites, spreading myself too thin, “like chocolate pudding scraped across too much ham.”  (That’s a quote from Veggie Tales – Lord of the Beans–don’t ask why).

Most people would say in their first blog entry, “Hopefully this is useful to someone.” Forget that. I say, hopefully it is useful to ME. I have way too many links in my bookmarks so this will be a place for me to store everything that I want to remember to visit again. If you want to link to webovater.com for seo and web design links by all means, be my guest. I will be adding tons of useful resources and links here, and we might just have some guest authors submit some articles from time to time to break the monotony (as if there was any chance of you getting bored, with my dripping sarcasm and witty remarks). But I don’t beg for links from other webmasters. This is 2008. If you put good content up, people will link to it naturally. Spamming might work on a mass scale but it’s annoying, and it’s unnecessary if your site has stuff people want to read.

I liked the Pay It Forward movie. I like the idea that there are still people in this world that are able and willing to help others, and expect nothing in return. However I am not going to help you rank on Google for your keywords and redesign your site for you and optimize your photos for Virtuemart and everything else you want me to do for free, because I have done it before for ‘friends’, and it’s a waste of my time. If you have a decent budget and would like to enlist our services, then by all means send me a request for a quote on your project. But if you intend to keep adding new specifications to the scope of that project and expect me or my developers to tack this on without additional compensation, I advise you to go elsewhere. Been there, done that, and not interested anymore.

If you are new to web marketing, don’t worry, I will start at the very beginning for you. I am not some guru who is going to speak over your head (or ask you for money). On the other hand, if you are a seasoned seo and I say something that is no longer applicable or is just dead-wrong, please call me out on it so that I can stop leading people astray. Like if I were to write how it’s a good idea to cram hundreds of keywords into your pages using a text color that was the same color as the background, I would be disappointed if some of the older seo crowd DIDN’T bite my head off. That said, let’s get to the point, close this introduction, and not turn this into a novella.

Happy reading.

Chris
